Mayor Mallory to be Grand Marshal for Izod Indy Series Race

SPARTA, KY (FOX19) - Mayor Mark Mallory will be the Grand Marshal for Kentucky Speedway's IZOD IndyCar Series (IICS) "Kentucky Indy 300" event on Sunday, October 2.

Mayor Mallory will ride in the pace car, participate in the driver's pre-race meeting, and give the famous command, "Drivers Start Your Engines," before the 2:50 p.m., race start.

To help celebrate, Mayor Mallory will visit an IZOD IndyCar Series transporter display and parade in downtown Cincinnati Thursday, Sept. 29 at the corner of 6th Street and Race Street.

The display opens at 5:30 p.m. and the parade to the speedway will begin at 7 p.m. Guests visiting the display will be able to meet IICS personalities, test their skills with racing simulators and enjoy race-related activities.

"We are gaining the attention of the motorsports world for the energy and passion that Cincinnati has for racing," Mayor Mark Mallory said. "This transporter tour will be even bigger than the last one. Fans will have an opportunity to see the equipment that the most popular IndyCar Series drivers will use on the track this weekend."

Transporters representing leading IICS championship contenders Will Power, of Team Penske, and Chip Ganassi Racing's Dario Franchitti will be on display with others from A.J. Foyt Enterprises, Andretti Autosport, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, KV Racing Technology, Newman/Haas Racing, Panther Racing, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, Sarah Fisher Racing and more.

The "Kentucky Indy 300" will conclude a three-race weekend that also spotlights a 100-mile Firestone Indy Lights race and an Oct. 1 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) 225-mile event. Fans can start the fun on Sept. 30 when the speedway provides free infield Fan Zone access for two NCWTS practice sessions beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Weekend tickets, campsites and infield Fan Zone passes can be reserved by logging on to, calling 888-652-7223 (RACE) or visiting the Kentucky Speedway corporate offices at 1 Speedway Drive in Sparta, Ky., just off Interstate 71 Exit 57 and state Highway 35.
