BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19) -

Construction for a new building that will house two Kentucky National Guard Units is now underway.

A ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday marked the beginning of the construction.

The nearly $20 million Readiness Center is federally funded.

The 75,000 square building will be built on 32 acres. It will be located right next to the Boone County Sheriff's office.

Those in attendance to for the ribbon cutting included the Kentucky Governor's wife, Jane Beshear, and U.S. Representative Geoff Davis.

"It's not only good for the economy, it's good for security here in the state and ultimately for our continued response capability," said Rep Davis.

The Readiness Center will have offices, storage, classrooms and an assembly hall.

The construction is scheduled to last 16 to 18 months.
