CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Reds Community Fund will be honored with the 2011 Patterson Award for Excellence in Sports Philanthropy, presented each year by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
The award celebrates and promotes the selfless service of those within the world of sports whose passionate efforts make a difference in the lives around them.
The Reds are being recognized in particular for their Match program, which brings youth baseball teams from the suburbs and the inner city together in the spirit of diversity, interaction and friendly competition.
A ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.
The Marvin Lewis Community Fund won the Patterson Award in 2009.
