ISP: Suspects at large in Franklin County mass murder

LAUREL, IN (FOX19) - Indiana State Police say that the suspect or suspects in the deaths of five people in Franklin County are still at large.

Angela Napier, 47, her estranged husband Roy Napier, 50, and two of their adult children, Melissa Napier, 23, Jacob Napier, 18, and a neighbor Henry Smith, 43, were found dead around 1:30 p.m. Sunday after police received a call about a 4-year-old girl walking along Stipps Hill Road without any supervision.
A couple found the child walking along the road and called police. After further investigation, police found the four members of the Napier family dead in a house in the 24000 block of Stipps Hill Road, and neighbor Henry Smith was found dead in a recreational vehicle across the street. Police say the child is safe and in protective custody.
According to a preliminary report by the Franklin County coroner, the four members of the Napier family were killed from a gunshot wound to the head, and Henry Smith was killed by a gunshot wound to the chest. Angela Napier also suffered blunt force trauma to the head. The official cause of death will not be released until all aspects of the autopsies are completed.

Indiana State Police say that they do not believe that any of the victims are responsible for the shooting deaths. They did not comment any further on the investigation into who may be responsible, but they believe that the person(s) of interest are still at large.

Police are warning nearby residents to be careful and to not answer the door for strangers. They urge residents who may know any information or who have noticed any suspicious activity in the area to call 911 or the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
