GREENDALE, IN (FOX 19) - A soldier from Lawrenceburg, Ind. has been seriously injured in Afghanistan.

Family members of Pfc. Brett Bondurant say he was hurt Wednesday morning Afghan time in an explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED) in Mushan, just east of Kandar.

Bondurant will be transferred to a hospital in Germany for treatment. His family says he is in critical but stable condition. The Army tells the family they expect him to arrive back in the United States sometime next week. He will receive treatment at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.

Bondurant is a 2009 graduate of Lawrenceburg High School and is engaged to be married in January. The family tells us those plans are on hold pending the outcome of his recovery, but the couple still intends to wed despite the latest developments.

"That phone call. It was devastating. There's not even words to describe it. I was numb, completely numb," said his mother, Janelle. "I'm proud of him. We're all proud of him and we just want to get him home so we can be by his bedside."

Three others were injured in the explosion, and another person was killed.

A Facebook page has been set up in support of Bondurant: https://www.facebook.com/groups/brettbondurant
