Escaped Illinois prisoner arrested in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - An escaped Illinois prisoner, who had been on the run for 3 years, was arrested in Cincinnati Thursday.

Devant Geter was arrested by U.S. Marshals, led by the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team (SOFAST), in the Cincinnati area.

Geter escaped from the federal penitentiary in Marion, Illinois on September 13, 2008. He was serving a 14 year sentence for Possession with Intent to Distribute in Excess of 500 mg of Cocaine and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

SOFAST received information that Geter was traveling in and out of the Cincinnati area. Their investigation led them to the Cincinnati Greyhound Bus Station, where they found Geter arriving on one of the buses. He was surrounded and arrested.

The SOFAST team found that Geter has been using a false identity to elude law enforcement for 3 years.

Geter is in the Hamilton County Justice Center where he awaits extradition back to the Southern District of Illinois.
