Fiery crash shuts down both directions of US 127

MILFORD TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A fiery crash has shut down both directions of US 127 in Milford Township.

The crash occurred around 11:45 a.m. in the 4800 block of US 127 and involved two semi trucks and a car. One of the semi trucks caught fire.

US 127 is closed at State Route 73, but SR 73 remains open. Local law enforcement officers are directing traffic.

Police say the preliminary investigation reveals that Jetta Heger, 77, of Hamilton, was traveling southbound on US 127 when she lost control and veered into the northbound lane just south of the Eaton Road intersection. Heger's Ford Fusion clipped a semi truck driven by Barney Elliott, 46, of Walton.

The car then spun into a second northbound semi truck driven by Donald New, 68, of Dayton. That truck was hauling steel coils and was on the bridge over Seven Mile Creek.

The car struck the semi near the fuel tank, causing the truck to catch fire.

Heger was taken to Fort Hamilton Hospital for minor injuries. New and Elliott were treated at the scene.

The area is expected to remain closed for several hours as crews clean up accident debris. It could also remain closed even longer as ODOT officials determine the structural integrity of the bridge and decking of the roadway across the creek.

Diesel fuel that spilled into Seven Mile Creek is being contained.

No charges have been filed at this time.
