COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - A Boone County man was sentenced Monday to 235 months in prison for trying to entice a minor online to have sex with him.
Ricky Lee Dawson, 30, was sentenced for online enticement. Dawson has a prior sex offense. In 2009 he committed a similar act and was convicted in Boone County Circuit Court for unlawful access to a computer. His prior violation influenced the length of his federal prison sentence.
According to his plea agreement, on June 1, Dawson took a taxi from his residence in Boone County to Kenton County to meet what he thought was a 14-year-old girl. However, authorities were waiting for him and arrested him.
Between April 26 and June 1, Dawson chatted with an undercover officer from the Kenton County Police Department who Dawson thought was a minor female. In these conversations, Dawson described in graphic detail his intentions to have sexual intercourse with the minor.
Dawson will have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence and will be on supervised release for 30 years following the completion of his prison term.
