Posted: Updated:

Cincinnati Police participated in a nationwide sting over the Columbus Day weekend that they say resulted in the arrest of 32 local "johns."

The "National Day of Johns Arrests" was conducted by the Cook County Sheriff's Office along with the Demand Abolition Campaign of the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Hunt Alternatives. Eight law enforcement agencies across the country simultaneously conducted sting activities on the streets, in hotels, brothels, via the internet, and elsewhere.

Nationwide, the sting resulted in 223 total arrests.

Along with Cincinnati, police departments in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Pheonix, Cook County, Illinois, and Newport News, Virginia participated in the sting.

The sting was the first of its kind conducted by the law enforcement agencies. Officials at the Cook County Sheriff's Office say that the success of this sweep is expected to lead to similar operations in the future.
