LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) - A Lawrenceburg police officer is facing two felony charges after showing up to a "Meet Your Candidate" event dressed in his police uniform.
Doug Taylor is charged with Ghost Employment and Official Misconduct.
The charges stem from an investigation that began on May 11, 2011 when a concerned citizen reported they had seen Officer Taylor in uniform at a "Meet Your Candidate" day event at the Three Mile Ridge Apartment complex in Lawrenceburg on April 17, 2011.
The investigation, conducted by investigators from the Indiana State Police Organized Crime and Corruption Unit, revealed Officer Taylor worked a 10 hour shift that day and spent two hours of that shift campaigning at the Three Mile Ridge Apartments.
Officer Taylor surrendered himself to the court on the afternoon of October 11 and appeared before Judge James Humphrey for his initial hearing.
Upon the completion of the hearing Officer Taylor was processed at the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center and then by order of the court, was released on his own recognizance.
Senior Prosecutor, Daniel Sigler of Columbia City, IN was appointed special prosecutor in this case to oversee the investigation and lead the prosecution of the charges.
