Memorial honored firefighters lost in the past year

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Fire departments from the Greater Cincinnati gathered Wednesday to honor the lives of firefighters they have lost over the past year.

Dozens of men and women, both active duty and retired at the time of their passing, were honored at the memorial at the Duke Energy Center.

Firefighters say this memorial was a great way to bond everyone together as a family.

"It's where we come together and remember those who've come before us and it brings us family, because that's what the Fire Department is, a big family and including our immediate families at home and that's what this is all about," said Chief Richard Braun with the Cincinnati Fire Department.

A special floral tribute was included for the families of the honored firefighters.

The name of each firefighter was read, followed by the ringing of a bell.
