Lexington, KY (FOX19)- University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari says he would be disappointed if his team wins a national title but had no players drafted to the NBA. Calipari made the comments at UK's annual tipoff lunch.
The Wildcats head coach said his program is about players and their futures first and foremost. The topic came up as the coach recounted a conversation he had with Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell. McConnell asked Calipari how many players would be leaving the program after this season for the NBA draft, to which Calipari responded, "six or seven." McConnell then stated that Calipari has created more millionaires than a Wall Street firm.
Two years ago Kentucky produced a record five first round NBA draft picks.
Calipari and the Wildcats start the season this weekend with Big Blue Madness.
