INDEPENDENCE, KY (FOX19) - A Northern Kentucky family continues to mourn the loss of their son, who took his own life in the family's Independence home last Friday.
A memorial service was held Monday night at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Independence for Sam Denham, 13.
The teen used a family gun when he apparently couldn't cope with being bullied at school. Hundreds attended the service.
Sam's mother, Carol Denham, said her son left this world with little warning and with a sense that all was well despite problems of being bullied in the past.
"We crossed every 'T' and dotted every 'I', we could. Unfortunately for some reason it just wasn't enough," said Denham. "Everybody is in shock. He wasn't depressed. He showed no signs what-so-ever. Nothing. He didn't even tell some of his friends that it was going on," she said.
Carol Denham hopes her son's passing will make parents communicate with their children so something like this doesn't happen. "Talk...talk, talk, talk," she said.
