Website created to retain local high-quality educators

The Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Strive Partnership has launched Together We Educate (, a website focused to attract, support and retain high-quality educators for the urban schools in Cincinnati, Covington, and Newport. provides links to local school district, college, and university innovations, education options, and employment opportunities, as well as, links to living in the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky urban core. It encourages new teachers and career changers to come teach where they can have a significant impact on student lives while living in a vibrant, exciting region. The site also strongly supports current educators both locally and nationally by linking to them to high-impact career development offerings.

"Across the board excellent teachers have proven to produce higher student achievement," said Eve Bolton, Cincinnati Public Schools Board of Education President. "For our students, having an excellent teachers, those who are committed to teaching in an urban environment, can make all the difference for them, their families, and communities."

To support current educators the process was developed that links educators and schools to high-quality professional development under the "PD with Impact" button. Convened by the Strive Partnership, individuals representing local colleges and universities, school districts (public and parochial), nonprofit providers, and the Cincinnati Federation of Teachers worked for over a year as the "Educator Development with Impact" team to improve teacher quality and thus outcomes for students.

Kathleen Ware, CEO of the Mayerson Academy, led the work. "Providing professional development is easy but no longer sufficient. The ‘provider' must support implementation in the classroom/school and then evaluate the impact of that implementation on student achievement or behavior. Just as we want teachers to attend to the learning of their students, professional development providers must attend to the learning of our teachers and principals."

The team also adopted nationally recognized criteria for effective professional development, created an application template, and began building an online cohort of effective courses. Several are posted under "PD with Impact" on the Together We Educate website.

Professional development providers are invited to submit courses to "PD with Results" at

The ultimate goal of this website is to attract and support high-quality educators - whether new to the profession, career changers, or veteran teachers - all those driven to prepare urban students to succeed in the 21st century.

"To get better results for students, very few things matter more than great teachers and great school leaders," said Greg Landsman, Executive Director of The Strive Partnership. "We have some of the best teachers and principals in the urban core of our region, but we need more. This is what this site is all about."
