Mt. Orab man dies in three-vehicle crash in Butler County

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

A Mt. Orab man died late Friday afternoon in a crash that injured two others and closed the Butler Regional Highway for four hours.

Butler County Sheriff's office deputies and emergency crews from Liberty Township were called to east State Route 129 near the Van Gordon overpass for a multiple vehicle accident.

An initial 911 call to t he Sheriff's officers reported that there were 4-6 cars involved and one had burst into flames. Other callers reported that one person was thrown from one of the vehicles.

Police say a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by 47-year-old Rudy Waits cross the median and hit an oncoming Chevrolet Suburban head-on.

Waits was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

The impact of the crash sent the Suburban into a Toyota Sienna minivan, and carried both of those vehicles into the ditchline at the south side of the highway.

The Butler County Sheriff's Office says a mother and daughter in the minivan were checked out at the scene and proved to be uninjured.

The people in the Suburban, Greg Pilot and Roger Warwick, both of Blanchester, were both taken to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown.  Pilot had the more series injuries and was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

The crash remains under investigation by an accident reconstruction team and the Butler County Coroner.
