CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Social Security advocates are planning to protest Thursday at Social Security offices around the county.
Thousands of American Federation of Government Employees Social Security employees, along with the Alliance for Retired Americans, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, and the Strengthen Social Security Campaign are protesting recent proposals from Congress that would cut the Social Security Administration's operational budget.
Congress has proposed reductions from $473 to $882 million from President Barack Obama's request in Social Security funding for 2012.
SSA has implemented an agency-wide hiring freeze with the exception of the hearings operations. They have also indefinitely suspended mailing Social Security statements.
A local protest is planned for noon at Cincinnati North Social Security office, 10205 Reading Road.
