PLEASANT RIDGE, OH (FOX19) - Fire crews are investigating a fatal fire in Pleasant Ridge.
It happened just after 10 p.m. Thursday night at a home in the 3700 block of Iona Avenue.
A neighbor called 911 and said there was smoke coming from the roof, and that the occupant of the home lived alone and had been ill.
Initial arriving fire units reported a working fire on the first floor of a two-story frame. Firefighters simultaneously advanced fire attack hose lines, vented the roof and conducted a primary search of the fire building.
Fire crews found a woman unconscious in a first floor hallway, and she was quickly removed from the residence. She was taken to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The woman has been identified as Rebecca Harris Ragland, 54.
The fire was confined and extinguished in the kitchen area of the structure. There were no other reported injuries.
The cause and origin has yet to be determined. Damage is estimated at $35,000. It is unknown if smoke detectors were operational at the time of the fire.
Thirty-one firefighters and eight fire companies operated at this incident.
