WALTON, KY (FOX19) - A portion of a highway in Walton has been named for a local jockey.
Steve Cauthen, who grew up on his family's farm in Walton, rode Affirmed in the Triple Crown in 1978. He is the youngest jockey to achieve that feat and was the first jockey to win $6 million in a single season.
The 'Steve Cauthen Highway' was dedicated on Friday. Signs will be placed on Ky. 14/Ky. 16 from the I-71 overpass (Verona-Mudlick Road )to the I-75 overpass (Walton Verona Road), which is about a six mile stretch.
Rep. Addia Wuchner introduced legislation passed by the 2011 General Assembly to honor Cauthen.
