FAIRFIELD, OH (FOX19) - A 'Light the Night' rally is taking place Monday evening to support the Fairfield school levy.
The Fairfield School Board has a $6.5 million operating levy on the November ballot. The school district has already cut $8 million in expenses which include closing one school, laying off more than 135 teachers and staff and also getting rid of high school busing.
If the levy doesn't get passed the district will then again be forced to make $9 million more cuts. This would involve more teacher and staff layoffs and also effect sports and extracurricular activities for students.
Monday's event takes place at 6 p.m. on Nilles Road in Fairfield, between Pleasant Avenue and Winton Road.
The expected turn out for the event is 500 people, supporters will bring glow sticks, signs, noise makers and t-shirts to rally their support for the levy.
