Children's services, hospital care levies pass

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Voters in Hamilton County overwhelmingly approved Issues 37 and 38, the indigent care and children's services levies.

Issue 37, the indigent care levy, was passed by a margin of 69 to 31 percent.

The indigent care levy pays University Hospital and Children's Hospital to provide health care to citizens of Hamilton County who have no health insurance, and cannot pay for health care themselves.

Issue 38, the children's services levy, passed by a margin of 71 to 29 percent.

The levy pays for the care and protection of abused and neglected children.

Issue 38 first went before voters in 1981 and has been renewed every five years since then.  On this current ballot, the millage rate is the same as in years past, however, due to a drop in property values, the Department of Job and Family Services will get $1.7 million less in 2012.
