Comedian Drew Hastings plans to have the last laugh on critics who questioned his motives in running for mayor of a small southwest Ohio city.
The 57-year-old veteran of TV and radio comedy programs and clubs around the country ran as a Republican in Hillsboro and won with 773 votes to 440 that went an independent Tuesday in unofficial returns. Hastings tells The Times-Gazette of Hillsboro (http://bit.ly/2vy9Gf ) that his biggest frustration has been being depicted as someone who wasn't serious or was seeking publicity.
He expects the mayoral job he will take over in January to be tough and says he will try very hard "to be really good at it."
Hastings says he can bring positive attention for the city of 6,600 some 50 miles east of Cincinnati.
