Usually the run sets up the pass but the opposite was the case in Highlands (12-0), 67-20 win over Johnson Central (9-3). Bluebirds quarterback, Patrick Towles threw for most of his 407 yards between the 20's. Inside the red zone it was the Highlands ground game that took over as Jake True ran for five touchdowns on 10 carries for 57 yards. The senior has now found the end zone a team high 12 times on the season and 25 times in his career. Colin Seidl score twice giving him nine touchdowns on the year.
Johnson Central tailback JJ Jude came into the game as the state's all-time leading rusher with 8,539 yards. The senior was held to 94 yards in defeat. Eagles quarterback Zach Gound led the team with 99 yards and three rushing touchdowns. Ashland Blazer was out gained 583-239.
For the sixth time in the last seven weeks Highlands has scored at least nine touchdowns and 63 plus points against their competition. They are now averaging 59.3 per contest on the season. The Bluebirds have shown great balance with 42 scores rushing and 48 passing.
Highlands sat two of their top two seniors in this affair as Austin Sheehan and Carter New watched from the sidelines with injuries.
Up next is a rematch with CovCath. The Bluebirds beat the Colonels 42-37 back in Week 5 of the season. It is a game that CovCath could have easily won. This match up brings us back to the glory days of the Highlands/CovCath rivalry.
