FRANKLIN, OH (FOX19) - A Franklin business was evacuated after a HazMat situation Monday morning.
A tank was leaking acetylene on the property of Nation Coating Systems on Shotwell Drive in Franklin.
Ten employees from Nation Coating and 40 employees from businesses downwind from the gas leak were evacuated. No injuries were reported.
Investigators say acetylene is one of the most unstable gasses. "One small spark from a heater could have caused an explosion. Thankfully we didn't have that here today," said Fire Chief Jonathan Westendorf, City of Franklin Fire Division. "Obviously there is a good amount of wind in this area, which helps us in this type of situation, get rid of the hazardous atmosphere product."
Firefighters say the tank was shut down and removed from the property. Everyone was allowed to go back to work.
Nation Coating Systems, Inc. is a supplier of thermal spray coaling for industrial applications, according to their website.
