$3.8 million construction project begins to improve Barnes Pike in Grant County

GRANT COUNTY, KY (FOX19) - A major realignment and widening project Barnes Pike will improve the roadway infrastructure in Grant County.

The one mile section will go from approximately the east side of the Interstate 75 interchange to the rail road tracks at Arnie Risen Blvd.

"This road widening project will improve the alignment along this growing section of highway," said Rob Hans, Chief District Engineer for District 6. "This in turn will improve safety and provide better access to St. Elizabeth Hospital."

Barrett Paving Materials, Inc., of Cincinnati, OH was awarded the $3.8 million contract. Utility work will begin after Thanksgiving and continue throughout the winter.

The actual road construction will start in the Spring 2012.

This section of roadway will have three-lanes that include a continuous center turning lane, improved shoulders, curb and gutter.

Traffic will be maintained throughout the construction project and the speed limit will be posted at 25 mph. The project has an anticipated completion date of summer 2013.
