Memorial service set in Ohio for ex-P&G CEO John Smale

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A memorial service for Mr. Smale will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, which is located at 3400 Michigan Avenue in Cincinnati.

Smale died Saturday at age 84. The consumer products company's CEO and chairman in the 1980s, Smale was also a former General Motors Co. chairman and longtime board member.

The Canada-born Miami University graduate was credited with expanding P&G's global businesses and making its operations more efficient. He chaired a task force on Cincinnati infrastructure improvements, and his late wife, Phyllis, had led fundraising efforts to beautify the city. Smale donated $20 million this year to a riverfront park in her honor.

To accommodate all who wish to pay their respects, overflow seating and a live feed of the ceremony will be provided on church grounds.
