2-year college degrees in demand

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

If you are thinking of going back to school for a career change there are some two-year college degrees that are more in demand than others.

Statistics show unemployed workers and those who are not happy with their current job make up a majority of students seeking a 2-year college degree.

There are five particular fields that appear to give you a better chance of being hired once you have that diploma in hand:

  • Nursing
  • Accounting
  • Dental Hygienist
  • Business Administration
  • Paralegal

"We do get a lot of people coming in who are completely unemployed looking for something that's going to allow them to finish out their working careers," said Andrew Surber, an admission recruiter at Cincinnati State University, who agrees that Nursing should be at the top of the list.  "Our nursing program with our RN and Practical Nursing program are very popular."

Depending on which degree in demand you choose and the community college you attend, chances are your course credits will automatically transfer to the University of Cincinnati or NKU, should you decide to pursue a 4-year degree, said Surber.

Living in the Tri-State area has its advantages for tuition. Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana lawmakers have signed a tuition reciprocity agreement which means no matter where you live, you can attend any local community college at an in-state student tuition rate.
