Miami Marching Band headed to NYC for Thanksgiving Day parade
OXFORD, OH (FOX19) -
The Miami University Marching Band is on its way to New York City to participate in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.
The band loaded up early Tuesday morning for the approximately 10-hour drive to The Big Apple.
Band Director Stephen Lytle recently found out that MU would be the "Santa Band", a spot that gets a lot of attention because Santa's the ultimate attraction in the parade.
The band will play "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" as it leads Santa past the reviewing stand near the end of the parade. Lytle says they will play a version of the song that mixes a bit of swing into the marching band arrangement. The band will have special parts and even some vocals to add a twist to the song.
Miami's band was one of ten from all over America that was selected many months ago out of 150 bands that applied to be in this year's parade. It last appeared in the Macy's parade in 2003. The band, with more than 250 members plus a color guard, will board a long row of buses and head for New York on Tuesday.
