CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A Hartwell man is behind bars after police say he attacked his aunt, then stole her car.

Michael Omeara, 48, is charged with felonious assault and several traffic violations, including failure to maintain reasonable control, driving under suspension and reckless driving.

According to court documents, police responded to the parking lot of the Kroger's on Kenard Avenue on Sunday after several people advised of family trouble. Upon arrival, officers found Omeara in the passenger seat of a Chrysler Sebring, trying to force his aunt out of the driver's seat. He had a knife and was threatening to stab her.

Omeara fled when police arrived. Officers caught up with him and took him the Hamilton County Justice Center.
