U.S. 50 reopens in Elizabethtown after semi accident

ELIZABETHTOWN, OH (FOX19) -

Eastbound U.S. 50 is open again in Elizabethtown after an accident involving a semi truck.

It happened just east of Lawrenceburg Road at around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say a 2012 Kenworth tractor-trailer, driven by Johnny Byrd, 44, of Rushville, Ind., was traveling westbound on U.S. 50 when he rear ended a pick-up truck that was stopped to turn left onto a private drive.

The accident caused the semi truck to overturn onto the passenger side, spilling the entire load of dry farming fertilizer.

The driver of the pick-up truck, Gary Lee Lewis, 47, of Middletown, was taken to Harrison-Mecy Hospital for minor injuries. Byrd refused medical transport but was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Both drivers were wearing their safety restraint devices at the time of the crash. Alcohol and/or drugs were not a factor.  U.S. 50 was closed for approximately two hours while ODOT cleaned up the spill.
