Xavier Holds Home Court in Women's Crosstown Shootout

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team (6-1) saw its six-game win streak come to an end following a 69-60 loss to Xavier (2-4) on Sunday, Dec. 4 at the 2011 Skyline Chili Women's Crosstown Shootout.

Dayeesha Hollins (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods/Michigan) recorded her first career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds and paced three Bearcats in double-figures. Kayla Cook (South Webster, Ohio/South Webster) had 15 points and Chanel Chisholm (Long Island, N.Y./North Babylon/Vanderbilt) pitched in 10 points.

XU jumped out to a 6-0 lead, while Bjonee Reaves (San Bernardino, Calif./Cajon/Neosho County (Kan.)) found herself in early foul trouble, recording three fouls within the first three minutes. Despite benching its leading scorer, UC took the lead at the 13:26 mark and held the advantage for the remainder of the half before settling on a 27-22 score at the break.

But the Musketeers wouldn't go down without a fight, as they knotted the score twice in the second stanza. After a quiet 20 minutes, Tyeasha Moss contributed 17 second-half points, allowing Xavier to take the lead once and for all with 5:17 remaining. Hollins made the trip to the free-throw line twice in the final minutes, but it was too little too late as Xavier held on for the 69-60 victory.

Xavier outrebounded UC, 39-26, and shot 45.8 percent, while UC connected on just 37.7 percent of its shots. Despite forcing 13 turnovers, the Bearcats couldn't keep up with the Musketeers 60 percent shooting in the second half.

Moss was one of four scorers in double-figures for XU, in addition to Shatyra Hawkes (19), Lynette Holmes (10) and Jessica Pachko with a double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds).
