CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Gold Star Chili will cater a brunch for the Woodlawn, Ohio-based National Guard unit, the HHB 1-174th Air Defense Artillery as part of an ongoing relationship that began when the unit was deployed to Iraq in September 2011. The catered lunch will be part of the 1-174th's "Welcome Home" holiday celebration and is one of several initiatives undertaken by Gold Star Chili to support the unit's overseas service.
Since the 1-174th's Woodlawn armory is within just three miles of Gold Star's Hartwell, Springdale and Evendale restaurants, the 96-store restaurant chain "adopted" the unit when it was deployed to Iraq and during its time overseas, Gold Star shipped its canned chili to Bagdad and conduced an in-store collection drive for sundries that the members of the 1-174th has requested while overseas.
Over the past 10 years Gold Star Chili has hosted nearly 1000 "Welcome Home" parties at dozens of their restaurants as part of its Serving Our Troops program. Serving Our Troops offers deploying or returning service men and women the opportunity to host a free party for up to 30 family and friends at the Gold Star Chili restaurant of their choice.
The event will take place on Sunday, December 11th at the National Guard Armory, at 10050 Woodlawn Blvd from 11:30am to 1:00pm.
