GREEN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A burned out shell is all that remains of a home in the 1400 block of Beech Grove Drive in Green Township.
The fire broke out at about 4pm Saturday. Green Township District Fire Chief Kevin Hummeldorf says by the time firefighters arrived the fire had gotten a good head start.
"Based on the fact that it was so heavily involved when we arrived here I would say yeah, it had probably been burning for quite awhile. Being in a cul-de-sac here and kind of out of the main traffic area its understandable that it might have got out of hand without people noticing it," he said.
The family inside managed to get out safely and no firefighters were injured. Neighbors say the family had just moved in this weekend.
Hummeldorf says it appears that the fire started somewhere in the rear of the two story home and spread quickly. The fire was initially so intense that firefighters were unable to get inside.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
The house sustained extensive damage. Neighbors say the owners had been trying to sell the home for more than a year with an asking price of $225,000.
