Springdale church to spread annual holiday cheer

SPRINGDALE, OH (FOX19) -

A collection of Christmas toys will soon find its way under the trees of less fortunate families in the Tri-State thanks to a Springdale church.

This is the fifth year that the Vineyard Community Church is helping to make the season a little brighter for children who's parents have fallen on hard times.

The annual Christmas Store is stocked solely by private donations and is just one of many charitable events the church holds throughout the year.

"We're going to serve 900 children this year all out of the generosity of individuals and families that are bringing in brand new Christmas toys for children between the ages of birth to 18 years of age," said Judy Gillens with The Healing Center at Vineyard Community Church.

Parishioners have been adding to the toy count since early November amassing more than 2,200 gifts for girls and boys this year.

"People are really struggling right now. But mostly they're lonely and they have a lack of hope and so what we do here is really try to connect with one another. We do just because we love people," said Gillens.

The families who have pre-registered for the event will begin the free holiday shopping excursions on Monday. Anyone who would like to register for next year's event can call Vineyard Community Church in Springdale anytime between the months of January and November.
