COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Welcome House of Northern Kentucky is letting the children living in the Gardens at Greenup apartments to shop for their parents in a special holiday event.
The shopping event will take place on Fri., Dec. 16 from 3-6 p.m. at the Garden Center located at 133 E. 11th St. in Covington. This event is made possible by Welcome House volunteers and donors.
A group of volunteers, who call themselves the Garden Girls, are helping organize the event. The Girls operate the Garden Shoppe at the apartment complex on Greenup St. in Covington where residents can spend their points earned for following their case plans. Household items, toiletries and paper products account for many of the items purchased.
Welcome House, established in 1982, allows clients to live at the Gardens for up to six years while they furthers their education to obtain a college degree or vocational certificate. There are 20 adults and 52 children currently living at the Gardens. The agency provides quality services for individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, including management, housing and assistance with employment and benefits.
