Prosecutor: No charges in Crosstown Shootout brawl
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters says no criminal charges will be filed as a result of the brawl between Xavier and UC at this year's Crosstown Shootout.
Deters and investigators reviewed films from the game and talked with University of Cincinnati Head Coach Mick Cronin and Xavier University Head Coach Chris Mack. Investigators also interviewed witnesses and players.
Deters is also said UC's Yancy Gates, who sucker punched Xavier's Kenny Frease, reached out to each other privately and that Frease is satisfied with Gates' apology.
"This was an unfortunate situation. However, after talking with both coaches, I truly believe that the teams will be able to deal with the situation more effectively than the criminal justice system," said Deters.
The fight broke out with 9.4 seconds left in Saturday's Crosstown Shootout. Xavier and UC have each suspended four players for the brawl.
