Mother, daughter escape house fire in Westwood

WESTWOOD, OH (FOX19) - Fire crews responded to a house fire in the 3000 block of Daytona Avenue early Thursday morning.

The fire started at around 3 a.m. A mother and daughter were able to make it out safely.

Fire investigators say the fire appears to have started on a deck area to the rear of the house and had begun to spread to the interior of the structure before being extinguished by fire crews.

The occupants stated that they heard "popping sounds" which caused them to investigate.  When they entered the kitchen area they saw the fire through the rear door and immediately exited the building and called 911.

There were no reported injuries to civilian or fire personnel.

The fire did an estimated $25,000 in damage to the structure and contents.  The cause and origin of the fire have yet to be determined.
