DES MOINES, IA (FOX19) - With about two weeks to go before Iowa's caucus, a new poll is showing that Texas Rep. Ron Paul is leading the GOP presidential race in the Hawkeye State, with Newt Gingrich in third.
The new survey from Public Policy Polling (PPP) shows Paul has 23 percent of support from caucus-goers, while Mitt Romney has 20 percent and Gingrich 14 percent.
Gingrich was leading with 27 percent in an early December PPP poll, but his support has fallen in recent weeks.
Paul has been running attack ads against Gingrich in Iowa, as has a super PAC group backing Romney.
PPP surveyed 597 likely Republican caucus goers from Dec. 16-18. The sampling error is plus or minus four percentage points.
Iowa's caucus is Jan. 3.
