Three in custody after Tri-County Mall parking lot shooting

SPRINGDALE, OH (FOX19) - Police say they have three suspects in custody who are believed to be involved in a fight in the Tri-County Mall parking lot where shots were fired.

Springdale police say they were called to the mall parking lot around 11:30 a.m. Monday.  No one had been hit by the gunfire.

"It's one of those things where, you hope you don't ever see these kind of things," said Capt. Tom Wells with Springdale Police. "Why people would foolishly do this kind of an act, when there's so many other potential victims who are totally unrelated to this is just beyond me."

When police arrived at the scene, the suspects had already fled, but a man police are calling a Good Samaritan called 911 while following the car the suspects jumped into.

"That was a huge help, it makes all the difference in the world," said Wells. "You know it's certainly a dangerous situation and it's not something we would ask people to get directly involved in, but to have someone take it upon themselves to follow the car and provide that kind of information led to the quick capture, literally yes, in just a matter of minutes."

Capt. Wells says three suspects were taken into custody near the intersection of Northland Blvd. and Tri-county Parkway. A hand gun was recovered from the vehicle.

Charges have not been filed, but Capt. Wells says those in custody could face felony charges.
