CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati Bengals rookie wide receiver A.J. Green has been voted to go to the NFL Pro Bowl, the NFL announced Tuesday.
Green was the Bengals' first-round draft pick in the 2011 draft. He is the first rookie wide receiver to make it to the Pro Bowl since 2003, and the first Bengals rookie since Cris Collinsworth in 1981.
A.J. Green tweeted, "Wow!! Thanks to everyone who voted!!!! ...goin to Hawaii! Such a blessing" in response to the news.
"As I've said before, A.J. is the best first-round draft pick that I've ever been around," said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis in a statement. "He has shown the other players in this league, and the fans, that he deserved this honor. I have not seen a receiver better than he is at getting to the ball."
The Bengals also had seven players voted as Pro Bowl alternates. Geno Atkins, Andy Dalton and Mike Nugent were voted first alternates, Andrew Whitworth is a second alternate, Jermaine Gresham is a third alternate, and Cedric Benson and Domata Peko are fifth alternates.
