CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Christmas has come and gone, and the Tri-State is ready to ring in the new year.
"To bring in new years, with my kids, at the square skating," said Donna Kelley.
Fountain square is preparing for a massive crowd to countdown to midnight and say goodbye to 2011 with a bang.
"And there's a laser lights show on the big giant LED board, there's a countdown at midnight, then fireworks kind of officially start 2012," said Anastasia Mileham of 3CDC.
The festivities kick off at 8 PM, and organizers encourage families to bring the kids for family fun that everyone can enjoy for free.
"It's early enough to be a family friendly event, it's free ice skating on the square which is regularly $3, so it's cheap to begin with, so it's free ice skating on new year's eve," Mileham said.
And for the adults, the champagne will be flowing for a midnight toast, and Fox 19 will be in the middle of all the news year fun.
"There's champagne for sale on the square, and a DJ, of course Tricia Macke and Ben Swann from Channel 19 will be down here on the Procter and gamble stage," Mileham said.
Those who plan to celebrate say they look forward too ringing in 2012 with family and friends on the square.
"This is going to be the first time we go outside of our house for an event like this with the kids, because you know, it's hard with the kids, so yea, we're looking forward to it," said Carlos Martin.
3CDC says they're also working with Cincinnati Police to ensure that all the new years celebrations are safe.
