Xavier students required to attend 'reflection sessions' on Shootout brawl
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
An e-mail sent to Xavier University students Thursday afternoon is requiring students to go to a "reflection session" about the Crosstown Shootout brawl if they want to attend another Xavier basketball game.
Dean of Students Luther G. Smith wrote students saying, "The student section contributed to the hostile atmosphere that charged the arena with unsportsmanlike conduct through unacceptable chanting, verbal expletives, and objects being thrown onto the arena floor. As a Jesuit, Catholic university, the behaviors demonstrated are not becoming of its students and is in conflict with the mission, values, and standards of Xavier University."
The letter goes on to say that students that attended the shootout have to attend one of three reflection sessions next week. Students who don't attend one of the sessions will be ineligible to receive men's basketball home game tickets for the remainder of the 2011-12 season.
The Xavier University Men's Basketball team got into a fight with the University of Cincinnati Men's Basketball team on the basketball court during the annual game. The fight resulted in the suspension of 4 Xavier players and 4 UC players.
