CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A woman who beat and nearly starved a 4-year-old girl to death will spend 14 years in prison.
Shanna Mitchell, 33, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to felonious assault and child endangering.
Prosecutors say Mitchell was the girl's guardian.
The little girl only weighed 21 pounds, while all of Mitchell's biological children were well fed and cared for.
"The time when I had issues in my life you promised to take care of my daughter, but the way you treated her, I wouldn't treat a dog like that," said Kenneth Kimbrall, the victim's father. "I hope you get everything you deserve and I pray no one treats your children the way that you treated mine, and may God have mercy on your soul."
Judge Ralph Winkler says he sentenced Mitchell to 14 years because it's one less year than a murder sentence.
