CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A locally-owned soul food restaurant is the newest tenant announced for The Banks project in Downtown Cincinnati.
City officials made the announcement at the Freedom Center Tuesday afternoon. The Hamilton-based Mahogany's Cafe and Grill will be opening a 3,500 square foot restaurant on the north side of Freedom Way. Mahogany's is a family owned restaurant with a menu that has been crafted over four generations.
Mayor Mark Mallory applauded the move at the announcement, not only for being the first investment by an African-American owned business at The Banks, but also because Cincinnati has been missing "real good soul food" for a long, long time.
"The minority community does not necessarily see itself in the progress being made in our city, and this announcement today is a signal that does not have to be the case," said City Manager Milton Dohoney.
More than 70 percent of the retail space is now leased out at The Banks, and more than 90 percent of the residential space is spoken for.
