7,000 pounds of copper wire stolen in Walton

WALTON, KY (FOX19) -

Authorities are investigating the theft of copper wire in Walton, Ky.

The Boone County Sheriff's Department Scrap Unit says a large amount of copper wire was stolen from the Eaton Asphalt Satellite Plant located in the 200 block of East Frogtown Rd. Police say the copper was taken between Dec. 23, 2011 and Jan. 5, 2012 while the plant was shut down.

Thieves cut and removed more than 700 feet of copper wire, which is valued at more than $20,000 and weighs about 7,000 pounds.
