Driver sentenced to 4 years in prison for crash that injured officer

A man who caused a crash that severely injured an off-duty Cincinnati Police Officer accepted a plea deal and will spend four years behind bars.

Raymond Weathers, 35, pleaded guilty to two of the four counts against him - one count of aggravated vehicular assault and one count of vehicular assault. Another count of aggravated vehicular assault and vehicular assault were dropped.

Judge Robert Ruehlman sentenced Weathers to four years in prison.

Police say Weathers went left of center on Columbia Parkway on Aug. 16 and hit Cincinnati Police Sergeant Ron Schaeper's vehicle head-on. According to Hamilton County court records, Weathers was operating his vehicle on a suspended license and was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.

Schaeper suffered a traumatic brain injury and is still undergoing physical, speech and occupational therapy. Weathers suffered a broken leg in the crash.
