Sheriff awarded for helping save man's life

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones was awarded a "Certificate of Recognition" from Hamilton mayor Pat Moeller during Wednesday's city council meeting.

The award was given "…for his quick thinking and heroic efforts in saving a man's life at the Hamilton YMCA by performing CPR and successfully resuscitating the individual…"

It stems from an incident on Nov. 19, 2011, when the Sheriff, at the "Y" for his personal workout, was instrumental in assisting with the administering of CPR on a non-responsive individual in the handball courts at the downtown Hamilton YMCA.

The subject was revived by those efforts.

The Hamilton Fire Department and Life Squad later arrived and safely transported the individual to Fort Hamilton Hospital.
