EDGEWOOD, KY (FOX19) - A Beechwood fifth grader, hoping for a win in her final basketball game of the season, gets a big surprise before the game.
Laney Raab's dad, Cpl. Peter Raab, was deployed to Afghanistan last January. He arrived back home Sunday, his wife Stefanie came up with the idea to surprise his daughter at her big game.
"She didn't know what day he was coming home, we just told her it was going to be a couple of weeks," said Stefanie, who is battling cancer.
Before the game, Cpl. Raab told FOX19, "I wanna see her face, I'm not gonna lie. Apparently, she's about as tall as my wife now. I've been told to watch out cause she might knock me over."
A few moments later, that's almost what happened, as Laney ran across the court and hugged her dad. With that hug, there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
Not wanting to let go of her dad, Laney eventually pulled away as she and her Beechwood team took on St. Pius.
