Police: 12-year-old student admits setting fire at NKY middle school
HEBRON, KY (FOX19) -
A middle school student admitted to police Wednesday that he set a fire in one of the school's restrooms.
Fire crews were called to Conner Middle School in Hebron just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The building was immediately evacuated, and the school resource officer was able to extinguish the fire, which originated in a toilet paper dispenser. Fire crews were able contain the fire to the restroom, but there is extensive smoke damage to the school.
Students and staff were taken to the nearby Conner High School. Middle school students were dismissed at 10:30 a.m.
Detectives were summoned to the scene and determined the cause was intentional. From there they narrowed their search to three students. One of the three, a 12-year-old sixth grader from Burlington, admitted to setting the fire. Arson 1st degree charges are pending.
No one was hurt in the fire. School officials say there will be classes on Thursday.
