UC head coach Butch Jones calls Joe Paterno an "iconic figure" the day one of college football's greatest coaches died.
"College football has lost one of its iconic figures with the passing of Joe Paterno. For more than 60 years, Coach Paterno had a tremendous impact as a coach and teacher. He will be missed," Jones said in a statement.
"The thoughts and prayers of the Cincinnati football family are with his family as well as the Penn State family during this difficult time."
The longtime Penn State coach died Sunday morning after a short battle with lung cancer.
Paterno lost his job last fall when a former assistant was charged with child sex abuse. But the 85-year-old won more football games than any other major college coach and earned a reputation for winning with integrity and sportsmanship.
