BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19) - A Burlington man is now facing charges of attempted murder after police say he threatened a woman with a knife while she was walking in a Boone County park.
Charges against Derrick Clifton, 38, were upgraded on Monday during a regular court appearance.
Clifton was originally arrested and charged on Jan. 18 for the incident that happened at Central Park on Camp Ernst Road.
Police say a 55-year-old Union woman was walking on a path when she was approached by a man who walked up to her brandishing a green knife and threatened to kill her.
The woman ran into Camp Ernst Road and flagged down a passing motorist, who called 911.
Responding deputies immediately set up a perimeter and shortly located Clifton as described by the victim standing in a tree line.
He was immediately taken into custody and charged with alcohol intoxication, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and stalking. The original stalking charge has since been dropped.
Clifton again is being held in the Boone County Detention Center in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
